All the above phrases refer to creative thinking. To think differentily, unconventionally, or from a new perspective, we often use these phrases in creative parlance. People who think creatively often called out of box thinkers and they never accept ideas other than creative, and always come up with new ideas. An open mind, exceptional perception, the eagerness to be different, and a radical approach to discover things, is called thinking outside the box. In order to solve any problem, we typically tend to explore solutions in the unknown world, which requires creativity, dexterity and audacity. All creative thinkers are visionaries, who think beyond the boundaries of human consciousness, whereas the whole world follows conservative methods. Generally, we think in routine ways from early days of our school as we have been educated from a fixed box. But the point is how we develop the skill to face problems in ways other than we generally look. The following points may be considered:-
Focus on another business facing similar problems : Outside the box thinking is not just using our brain with available knowledge. We need to learn about how things are happening in other industries. We may find shocking results that other industries also face similar problems what we are facing in our subject areas. When studying about other areas, other than our own parameters, will definitely help some way or the other to come up with proper solutions.
Attend refreshment courses : There are several institutions that impart methodology to use to think differently. Learning a latest theme teach us new set of facts and statistics. Learning new systematic approach for thinking out of the box will help us expand both how we look at problems and the length of possible solutions we can come up with.
Study about the people who had creatively made new things: When we study academic books, what do we learn? The concepts with proven methods – In the same way, if we read the stories of eminent people of creative people, we will definitely get some ideas how these people might have thought. Thus reading about these people gradually stimulates our minds to think differently. Suddenly, we may pay attention to our problems in different manner with the influence of different thoughts that we observed while reading about these eminent people.
Note down : When we think differently, we may come up with various ideas. The more we think, the more ideas we get to find a solution to any given problem. In the process we will be deluged with myriad ideas. Always try to note down the ideas and filter the unnecessary ones while keeping necessary ones. Noting down the ideas will shift your thinking away from your brain’s logic centers to a more creative part of the brain, by and large right side brain.
Seek advice from mentors or close companions : Your friend may not be thinking the way you think and perceive the problems. But, it will definitely help you, if you pose the problem to him. Because he may comes up with different solution. In the same manner you get different views from mentors, if you approach them. All in all, everyone’s thinking style is unique, though we live in the same society and get education with same books. That is where, out of box thinking occurs.
Take a tour : People generally feel free while on tour, probably because of different locations, weather or going away from problems temporarily. When human beings feel from all sort of problems, then the brain start thinking in different way, due to the fact that human eyes receives different views and pictures and sent to brain.
Think outside the square
People who think outside the square are usually laughed at. They typically blamed with a tag line of day- dreamers. But, daydreaming is a creative flash and supports emotional well-being and physical health. Imagination is more powerful and confidence booster than reality. Daydreaming opens avenues to unexplored perspectives and possibilities which eventually convert into creative vibration. When you
daydream don’t just have dreams of creative things but start acting on those. Whatever you get from daydreaming put down on paper and see how exciting possibilities open up. Have complete faith in your personal power.
Students should think beyond the usual box
All the students of any campus get imparted the same standards of education. It is the student’s ability to imbibe and excel in their selected fields. If students stick to rote learning, only to get the job for the sake of living comfortably in their life, then the very purpose acquiring knowledge at educational institutions will become futile. Students must differentiate themselves to rise above the crowded arena of competition. As the world is changing very fast with the advent of technologies, students need to take a full and honest inventory of their skills and abilities. Students must strive to think beyond the usual box and prove that they are experts in their profession. Take every opportunity to add value to your skill set, and proclaim your added value as you go on with adding new skills to your list. Students who think beyond the usual box never consider themselves as a commodity and communicate well at the interview about their additional skills, be it professional or people skills.
Number of zeroes in person’s salary obstruct out of box thinking
The more zeroes in a person’s salary the better to a person’s status in our social ladder. Awards, honors and degrees occupy a prominent position in our mind set and the success that comes subsequently is tantamount with social appreciation and reverence. In such situation, we fail to cultivate our true zeal and intrinsic drives. Not stopping at that, we generally never bother to inspire children to excel in their desired fields, rather inculcate to get success through usual standards.
Out of box thinking has no limits
There is no limit for out of box thinking. Everyone can think beyond their imagination and come up with innovative ideas. “Where there is a will there is a way”. We should always aim high to accomplish something, even if we don’t get exactly what we aimed at. Listen to all people and gather all the informa- tion you can but consider only your choice and have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. Aiming high gives prosperity, success and satisfaction and also meets our desires.
When out of the box thinking receive threats
A student namely Agha Waqar Ahmad who was studying. ITI in Pakistan developed an answer to his country’s energy woes by innovating a water kit to run vehicles, which can separate hydrogen from water and supply it to the engine. With the kit, as the claim goes, a litre of water can support a 1,000 cc vehicle 40 km and get a one KV generator to produce electricity for two hours. In fact, some eminent people of Pakistan have gone to the extent of demanding security cover for the inventor against the powerful oil industry that, according to them, stands threatened by this Pakistani invention. Please keep it in mind that threats and warnings never hamper innovations.
Execution is important and we have to follow our instinct
We have got exceptional wisdom to think out of the box. That is fine and good, but that doesn’t give us any special status until we apply it and product desired results. When we think out of the box, we are the only people who can see the depth of our idea and not somebody else. And we can’t sit on the glory for coming up with grand ideas. No matter how great vision we have, we still need to execute that vision. Results are what count our ability to think outside the box. Generally we understimate the importance of execution, but the success and failure is totally dependent on our ability to execute the idea when we see the opportunity.
Thinking outside the box requires different characteristics :-
- Should have capacity to think differently with an open mind
- Should have focus on value of ideas and acting on them
- Should have persuasiveness to sell idea
- Should not be sentimental, as it will spoil creative endeavor
- Should have high emotional quotient
- Should have high level of curiosity with constant inquring
- Should hav risk taking ability
