What is body language?
Body language is a non-verbal communication through the use of postures, gestures and facial expressions including eye contact, and typically used instead of sounds and verbal language, and some- times in addition to making sounds.
Significance : The basic form of visual communication is body language. Body language represents how we sit, stand, move and make signals to the world. The way we put up with, the signals and indications we use and our facial expressions, all communicate more than we understand.
Posture : Standing up straight is a good posture and look professional, and slouching is a bad posture. The general concept of human posture refers how we carry our body as a whole, the attitude of the body and the position of arms and legs. Never stand learning one side and firmly stand with the feet on the ground to pose a correct posture.
Gesture : The non-verbal communication in which physical conduct communicates particular message is a gesture. Gestures happen generally, pointing at something or shooing away something without saying anything. Proper gesture plays significant role while addressing large gatherings and receives tremendous response than powerful words.
Facial expression : Facial expression is a gesture often executed with face muscles and is a most universal form of body language. This expression is typically used in sign languages to convey particular meaning. Just imagine how much a person can convey with facial expression. Our facial expression may reveal our true feelings about a particular situation and even if we say that we are fine, but the actual look on our face may tell the world otherwise. Every expression of people whether it is anger, fear, sadness and happiness is same all over the universe.
Eye Contact : This is the expression that engages the people and audience stick towards the orator and the orator builds trust and rapport with the audience, if used properly. The rate of eye blink can clearly indicate how tense or at ease a person is. The eye contact is gauged by people easily, how he or she is feeling and what they are thinking.
Body language – gender difference : We all know that men and women express emotions differently at every activity. Believe it or not, it is universal that men often experience anger more often than women.
Moreover, the postures, gestures and facial expressions inculding eye contact differs at greater extent because of the fact that each gender has separate body shape and inner feelings.
